Daesh (aka ISIS) vs. the U.S: Who(m) Will Noam Chomsky Support?

with 8 comments

Chomsky and his Hezbollah pal, but please don’t take Chomsky out of context

Crisis in Iraq

The U.S. and the Obama administration have authorized force in Iraq to protect the Kurds and the Yazidi against the Islamic State (Or Daesh). Soon Noam Chomsky will demand the U.S. be charged with war crimes for this, while keeping silent or dismissing or blaming the U.S. for creating ISIS, an Islamic Khmer Rouge. (Go to CNN: ISIS Brutality Caught on Video)

Chomsky criticizes those who protect his rights to free speech, and defends those who would imprison him. He misreads history (see Chomsky on WWII and Cambodia), invents polemics, and then accuses critics of taking him out of context. How ironic. He is an academic sinecure bathed in comfort in a democratic country.

(PS – Should the title above use “Whom” or “Who?” Unlike politics, this is a puzzle worthy of Chomsky. )

Update 9/9/2014:  Chomsky has spoken at Truthout, a Chomskyphile site where eloquent folks, like the commenters on this post, congregate.

1/12/2015:  Noam Chomsky joins conspiracy nuck-futs, blames Charlie Hebdo on West, Israel, everyone but terrorists.

Unlike the Khmer Rouge, ISIS/Daesh crimes will be on social media – Vice TV:

  1. You really don’t seem to understand what Chomsky is saying.

  2. I like Noam’s point of view. We, America, have created quite a mess in the region. The people of the surrounding countries need to figure out how to handle all of the religious factions that are responsible for the disruption.
We have no business participating. We are only there for the oil, could care less about the people.

  3. This is ludicrous. Why would Chomsky support ISIS? They are opposed to everything he ever stood for. He’s a human rights activist. ISIS have nothing to do with the situation in the Lebanon and Hizbollah, so why show a video about Chomsky’s visit to a Lebanon and say that proves he would support ISIS? Would you suggest that he would have opposed American intervention against the Nazis in the Second World War? I don’t think so.

  5. You don’t seem to understand what Chomsly is saying , or don’t want to understand. His point of view should not match any of the already filled ideology in your brain.

  8. You want to understand Noam Chomsky? He tends to oppose war crimes regardless of who commits them. This can lead to situations where Noam Chomsky criticizes both sides of a conflict. Noam Chomsky also tends to be more critical of the American government because he is an American and pays taxes. He is much more directly responsible for the actions of his own government (vs. a foreign government), which is why he focuses most of his criticism on the US.
