What globalization should mean

Take a look at the website www.kiva.org. There is a link on the blogroll. Kiva is an organization that helps individuals in countries all over the world through micro-loans. My wife and I have participated and loaned money to people in Cambodia, Guatemala, Kenya, and Tajikistan. Our first loan has been paid back 100%. The site is easy to use, and helps people in troubled spots all over the world. Then these people do not have to rely on corrupt governments and weak banking systems, not to mention the usury in these countries that is associated with lending through the black market.

  1. We are loanng money through this program too. It is a great system. It feels good to read through the listings and know the individuals you are helping. You can also buy gift certificates, these make great holiday or birthday gifts. Then the person receiving the gift certificate can choose who they want to loan to and receive the progress reports. When the loan is paid back then it can be re-loaned it to someone else. The process seems more simplified and personal than just giving your money to a big organization, not really knowing where it is going. We need to spread the word about this organization. The great thing is you can loan any amount, even just $25. A little bit goes a long way in most of these cases. Check it out!
